ST. LOUIS — A woman is suing a debt collector, citing alleged misrepresentation in debt collection.

Tiara Morgan filed a complaint on May 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri Eastern Division against Specified Credit Association 1 Inc. alleging that the defendant violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA).

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on May 24, 2016, she was sent a collection letter stating that she owed an outstanding balance of $10,193.57 to its client Centerco Properties LLC, arising out of a residential lease. The plaintiff claims that the amount stated is false, that she did not owe Centerco debt obligation and that a prior lawsuit was dismissed on Jan. 15, 2013.

The plaintiff holds Specified Credit Association 1 responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to state the accurate amount of the alleged debt, falsely represented the character of the debt and took action that could not legally be taken.

The plaintiff judgment for actual and statutory damages, costs, attorney's fees, and for such other relief as the Court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Alexander J. Cornwell of Brody and Cornwell in St. Louis.
