ST. LOUIS — A father is suing a resident and apartment owners/operators for alleged failure to provide a safe work environment to the decedent, who entrusted herself to the protection of her employers.

Calvin Owens, individually and as the father of Tiandra Johnson, deceased, filed a complaint June 29 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Torrance Carwin Epps, LP Affordable Housing LP, Sansone Group LLC and Shafonda Pointer alleging that the defendants failed their nondelegable duty to its employees to provide a reasonably safe workplace environment.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 19, the plaintiff claims her daughter was killed on the last day of her work at the Lafayette Tiffany Elderly Apartments as the assistant manager of the apartment. The plaintiff claims his daughter was not provided a security guard when Epps began firing multiple shots inside the apartment.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to conduct a reasonable criminal background check and contact on all residents, failed to warn decedent and others of the presence of danger of one its residents and failed to provide security services and security measures for employees and residents.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in a sum in excess of $25,000 for punitive damages, costs incurred and for all further relief the court deems just and proper. He is represented by John J. Driscoll of The Driscoll Firm PC in St. Louis.
