ST. LOUIS — A blind African-American woman is suing the Missouri Department of Social Services Family Support Division Rehabilitation Services for the Blind and Larry Branson for alleged discrimination.

Carla Henderson filed a complaint on July 21 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, alleging that the defendants violated the Persons With Disabilities Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has sustained injuries and damages for not being selected for a manager position at Level 4 Vending Facility No. 2. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly denying her equal opportunity for the position, which was allegedly offered to a white person with less seniority.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order placing her in the position that she would have been in had there been no violation of her rights, award for compensatory and punitive damages, costs and interest and such other appropriate relief. She is represented by Celestine Dotson of Law Office of Celestine Dotson in St. Louis.
