ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis consumer is suing a debt collector, citing alleged unlawful collection practices.

Mitchell Huston filed a complaint July 26 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri Eastern Division against GMA Investments LLC, doing business as Summit Receivables, alleging the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that he has suffered damages for loss of time and attorneys’ fees paid for advice about this situation. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly falsely and deceptively represented that settling his account in full would improve his credit score.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks actual damages, statutory damages of $1,000, pre-judgment and post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees, costs and other relief. He is represented by Nathan D. Sturycz of Sturycz Law Group in Edwardsville, Illinois.
