ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis resident is suing a debt collector, citing alleged abusive, deceptive and unfair collection practices.

Veronika Durdello filed a complaint on March 27 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Alltran Education Inc., d/b/a Enterprise Recovery Systems Inc., alleging that the debt collector violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on March 31, 2016, she received a notice from defendant attempting to collect a debt she allegedly owed to Navient Solutions Inc. without stating that she must dispute the debt in writing. As a result, she has suffered emotional and mental pain and anguish. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly failed to state that she must dispute the debt in writing in order to obtain verification of the debt.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant in the sum of $10,000, statutory damages, costs and reasonable attorney’s fees and such other and further relief the court may deem just and proper. She is represented by Stuart D. Werbin of Law Offices of Stuart Werbin in Brooklyn, New York.
