ST. LOUIS — A man is suing health care facility and two employees, citing alleged disability discrimination and wrongful termination.

Harald Jansson filed a complaint Aug. 25 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against BJC Health System, doing business as BJC Healthcare, Patty Eppel and Tom Sagio, alleging the defendants violated the Missouri Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in April 2016, he was injured at work and had to file for workers' compensation claim. After returning from work, he claims he was informed that he could no longer ride an EMS truck, was perceived to have a disability and that violated the company policy, and was terminated.

As a result, Jansson claims he lost salary and suffered emotional distress and damage to his professional reputation.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly discharged and deprived him of employment opportunities because of his disability and retaliated and terminated him in response to his pursuit of his legal rights under Missouri workers' compensation laws.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to award for actual and punitive damages, compensation for loss of benefits, interest on back pay, attorney's fees, court costs and any additional relief. He is represented by Bridget L. Halquist and Amanda R. Sher of Sher Corwin Winters LLC in St. Louis.
