ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis resident with disabilities is suing apartment owners, citing alleged housing discrimination.

Shervon McDaniel filed a complaint Aug. 24 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Xiaodong Zhang and Zhanfang Guo, alleging they violated the Missouri Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that she has suffered economic loss due to higher cost of alternate housing, emotional distress, humiliation, anxiety and embarrassment because the defendants allegedly failed to rent an apartment to her. The plaintiff holds Zhang and Guo responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated against her in terms and conditions of sale or rental of the apartment.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks award for actual and punitive damages, plus interest, reasonable attorneys' fees and costs and such other relief as justice may require. She is represented by Cyrus Dashtaki of Dashtaki Law Firm LLC in St. Louis and Melvin D. Kennedy of Law Offices of Melvin D. Kennedy LLC in St. Louis.
