ST. LOUIS — A wife and daughter are suing health care providers, citing alleged negligence.

Carol Wicklein and Amy Krusz filed a complaint Sept. 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Dr. Bhuvic Patel, Barnes-Jewish Hospital and The Washington University, alleging they failed to use the degree of skill and learning employed by similar health care providers under the same circumstances.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Oct. 24, 2016, Carol Wicklein's husband, Roger Wicklein, became unresponsive, went into cardiac arrest and died following an elective cervical fusion. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible because they allegedly discontinued his telemetry and failed to use appropriate methods and techniques to properly monitor his condition.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek damages of more than $25,000, costs for this action and further relief the court deems just. They are represented by Matthew J. Padberg of Padberg, Corrigan & Appelbaum in St. Louis.
