ST. LOUIS — A United States Postal Service employee is suing Megan Brennan, postmaster general, citing alleged racial discrimination.
Saundra Agnew filed a complaint on Jan. 23 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Brennan, alleging that the postmaster general breached its duty of good faith and fair dealing.
According to the complaint, Agnew alleges that she was aggrieved by the racially hostile work environment at the Hazelwood location where she worked. In the complaint, she says that she was yelled at and bullied due to her race in contrast to the favorable treatment shown to Caucasian employees. This caused her to experience emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, loss of dignity and sleeplessness, the complaint states.
Agnew holds Brennan responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to uphold her rights as a member of a protected class and interfered with employees' contractual rights to enjoy the same benefits and privileges as other employees.
Agnew requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for compensatory damages in an amount not less than $100,000, punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs expended and further relief as the court shall deem just.
