HANNIBAL — A Shelby County resident is suing transportation companies, citing alleged negligence.

Walter Daniel filed a complaint on March 3 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Martin Transportation Systems Inc., RTS Transportation Systems Inc. and David Eugene Dobson II, alleging that they failed to exercise standard care and skill required in operating a vehicle.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on June 27, he sustained traumatic injuries as a result of a motor vehicle collision caused by the defendants' driver who crashed a tractor-trailer into the back of the mower the plaintiff was driving along Highway 36 in Shelby County. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to take appropriate action to avoid a collision, drove at an excessive speed and failed to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants, damages, expenses, interest and other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Christian L. Faiella and Cassie J. Carpenter of Gump & Faiella LLC in Moberly.
