Man claims contract not extended due to racial discrimination

ST. LOUIS — A Kansas man is suing the acting secretary of the army, alleging racial discrimination.

Standard J. Jones filed a complaint March 6 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against acting army secretary Robert M. Speer, alleging breach of duty of good faith and fair dealing.

According to the complaint, on on Jan. 31, 2014, Jones, a black man, sustained loss of dignity, emotional distress, embarrassment, humiliation and stress as a result of the defendant's malicious decision not to extend plaintiff's contract as an inspector in the 88th Regional Support Command responsible for Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.

The suit says Jones' contract was not extended on the alibi of insufficient funds. In truth, the plaintiff alleges he lost his employment because Speer favored another person who was Caucasian to replace the African-American plaintiff.

The plaintiff alleges Speer failed to uphold Jones' rights as a member of a protected class and interfered with the plaintiff's rights to enjoy the same benefits and privileges as other employees.

Jones seeks trial by jury, reinstatement, actual and compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney fees, costs and all further relief the court deems just. He is represented by attorney Richard J. Magee of The Magee Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
