ST. LOUIS — A prisoner in St. Charles is suing lawyer Nick Zotos, citing alleged professional malpractice.
Robert M. Sills filed a complaint on March 15 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri against Zotos alleging that Zotos failed to properly advise him prior to directing him to plead guilty.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in June 2011, he plead guilty to charges of federal witness tampering and was sentenced to serve 20 years in prison. In March 2013, his conviction was vacated and dismissed. The plaintiff holds Zotos responsible because he allegedly advised Sills to plead guilty to a non-existent federal offense.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages in the amount of $2 million and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper.
