St. Clair County, Illinois, woman accuses other motorist of driving too fast while using cellphone

ST. LOUIS — A driver from St. Clair County, Illinois, is suing another motorist, citing alleged insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries.

Emily Hill filed a complaint July 21 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Christina Simpson of Madison County, Illinois, alleging she breached her duty to operate her motor vehicle in a careful and prudent manner.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 5, 2015, the Hill and Simpson were involved in a car crash when their vehicles collided. Hill claims she sustained serious and permanent injuries that will continue to cause her pain and suffering, mental aguish and medical expenses. The plaintiff holds Simpson responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently operated her vehicle at excessive speed and while using a cellphone and failed to maintain a careful lookout.

The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $25,000, interest, costs and such other just and proper relief. She is represented by Patrick Hinrichs of The Bradley Law Firm in St. Louis.
