ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis County woman is suing building contractors, citing alleged negligence, design defect and failure to warn.

Amy Winget filed a complaint in the St. Louis Circuit Court against K&S Associates Inc., Dickinson Hussman Architects PC, Inside/Our Architecture Inc. and Horner & Shifrin Inc., alleging they failed to follow the applicable standards and codes in designing and constructing a chemical storage and handling facilities.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in February 2014, she discovered she developed cancer in her small intestine due to exposure to toxic chemicals and substances. She has suffered pain and suffering, missed time to work and incurred medical expenses. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to design and build the structure with proper and adequate ventilation so chemicals and substances stored inside were not dangerous to those working in the building.

The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $25,000 and further relief the court deems appropriate. She is represented by Mark R. Bates of The Bates Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
