ST. LOUIS — African-American twins are suing an employer, citing alleged discrimination, a hostile work environment and retaliation.

Thomas Whittaker and Timothy Whittaker filed a complaint Aug. 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri Eastern Division against TA Operating LLC, doing business as Travel Centers of America, alleging that the employer violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege they have suffered emotional pain, suffering, inconvenience, humiliation and mental anguish. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible because it allegedly subjected them to greater work scrutiny, criticism, humiliation and retaliation, and denied training and promotional opportunities for complaining about allegedly racist practices.

The plaintiffs seek actual, compensatory and punitive damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees, costs and other relief the court deems proper. They are represented by Eric E. Vickers in St. Louis.
