Patient with ingrown toenail allegedly suffered heart damage from wrong meds

Medical malpractice 06

ST. LOUIS — A patient who went to the emergency room with an ingrown toenail is suing his medical care providers, alleging he was given the wrong medication and as a result had to have a pacemaker implanted.

Roland Billingsley filed a complaint on Nov. 14 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the John Cochran Division of the VA St. Louis Health Care System, Edward Fieg DO and Jane Doe, alleging that they negligently deviated from the standard of care and treatment ordinarily practiced by medical professionals.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that the defendants' negligence directly contributed to the deterioration of his heart, which ultimately led him to require a pacemaker for the rest of his life. He allegedly has suffered and will continue to suffer grievous injuries, psychological damage, loss of life's pleasure and inability to work.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to ensure proper medication and failed to recognize the symptoms of the failure of the plaintiff's heart conduction system.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, together with interest, attorney's fees and costs. He is represented by Nicholas K. Meador of Koller & Meador LLC in St. Louis.
