ST. LOUIS — A woman is suing her former landlord, alleging insufficient measures were taken to prevent injuries from bed bugs.
Cassandra Bazile filed a complaint on Feb. 6 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against St. Louis Apartments LLC alleging that the landlord failed to maintain the property pursuant to the codes and standards of the St. Louis City statutes and ordinances.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that between July 5, 2016 and April 7, 2017, she was a tenant at the defendant's apartment at 4249 Michigan Ave. when she was exposed to bedbugs and/or other vermin. As a result of the defendant's alleged carelessness, she was repeatedly exposed to and bitten by bedbugs and was caused to suffer personal injuries, loss of use of her residence, annoyance and inconvenience.
The plaintiff holds St. Louis Apartments responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to maintain a safe and habitable dwelling by failing to make a good faith effort to eliminate bedbugs and/or other vermin.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury; and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount exceeding $25,000, costs of court, attorney fees, and all other relief that are just and proper. She is represented by Daniel Zdrodowski and Richard A. Gartner of The Gartner Law Firm in St. Peters.
