ST. LOUIS — A former employee is suing the St. Louis Department of Public Safety, alleging wrongful discharge and slander.

Thomas Parks filed a complaint on Feb. 19 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the Department of Public Safety alleging that his former employer falsely accused him of mishandling a prisoner while he was a guard for the city.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that after he had resigned from his job because of the allegations, the department brought criminal charges against him and as a result, he was fired from another job that he had acquired as a security guard. The suit states Parks was found not guilty of the criminal charges.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount of $40,000, plus costs of court. He is represented by David L. Pentland of the David L. Pentland Law Office in St. Louis.
