Woman alleges injuries after surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital

Medical malpractice 04

ST. LOUIS – A patient alleges she was injured during a surgery at a St. Louis facility.

Carlotta Blair filed a complaint on April 17 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Maryland Medical Group LTD and Dr. Jacqueline Turner alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on April 22, 2016, she underwent a laparoscopy with lysis of adhesions performed by Turner. The suit states she later needed additional surgeries and medical care.

The plaintiff holds Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Maryland Medical Group LTD and Turner responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently caused an 8-12 centimeter rent in her terminal ileum, failed to notice it nor repair it prior to closing her abdomen and improperly discharged her before diagnosing and treating her multiple enterotomies.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks damages of more than $25,000, plus costs of this action and all further relief as the court may deem just. She is represented by Amy Collignon Gunn and Elizabeth S. Washman of The Simon Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
