Woman alleges she is entitled to disability benefits from Liberty Life

Insurance 11

ST. LOUIS – A former customer service representative for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District alleges an insurance company wrongfully denied her claim for disability benefits.

Luciana Bowens filed a complaint on April 26 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston alleging that the licensed insurer refused to pay her disability benefits claim without cause.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 17, 2016, she ceased working due to fibromyalgia and other issues. The suit states she filed a claim for disability income benefits pursuant to the insurance policy issued by defendant, which was denied by the defendant in February 2017.

The plaintiff holds Liberty Life Assurance Co. of Boston responsible because the defendant allegedly rejected the opinions of her physicians.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an order for defendant to pay disability benefits due to her, with interest, attorney's fees, costs and all other relief to which she is entitled. She is represented by David Hicks of David M. Hicks PC in Maryville, Illinois.
