Man alleges American Family Mutual Insurance failed to make payment required by policy

Insurance 04

ST. LOUIS – A Missouri man alleges that his insurer failed to pay a payment under his uninsured motorist coverage.

Jamel Harrison filed a complaint on May 2 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against American Family Mutual Insurance Co. alleging vexatious refusal.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 1, 2017, he was involved in an auto accident negligently caused by an uninsured driver on East Rock Road near its intersection with West 20th Street in Granite City. He alleges he suffered severe, permanent and disabling injuries to his back and neck.

The suit states the plaintiff was insured by the defendant and made a demand for it to pay an amount within the limits of the uninsured motorist coverage, but the defendant has failed and refused to pay a payment as required by the policy.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount exceeding $25,000, plus costs of court and all further relief that are just and reasonable. He is represented by Benjamin J. Sansone of Sansone Sumner & Lauber in Clayton.
