ST. LOUIS – A patient alleges negligent care provided by a St. Louis health care facility caused her to suffer a heart attack.
Kathy Schafer filed a complaint on May 22 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against SSM-SLUH Inc., doing business as SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, and Dawn Hui MD alleging medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that in May 26, 2016, she came under the care and treatment of the defendants. She alleges due to the result of the defendants' negligence, she suffered a heart attack resulting in permanent injuries, great pain and disability.
The plaintiff holds SSM-SLUH Inc., doing business as SSM Health St. Louis University Hospital, and Hui responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly assess the necessary graft size to be used during quadruple bypass surgery and failed to properly monitor plaintiff's post-operative condition.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs of court. She is represented by John J. Hopkins of Gori Julian and Associate PC in Alton.
