St. Louis University Hospital alleged to have failed to diagnose Illinois woman's brain tumor

Medical malpractice 09

ST. LOUIS – An Illinois couple alleges a St. Louis hospital incorrectly diagnosed the wife's brain tumor as a stroke.

Frances Heggemeier and Cecil Heggemeier filed a complaint on May 29 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against St. Louis University and SLH Vista Inc., doing business as St. Louis University Hospital, alleging medical negligence.

According to the complaint, between January 2016 and Aug. 29, 2016, Frances Heggemeier was under the care of the defendants. The suit states the defendants missed Frances Heggemeier's cancerous brain tumor in January 2016 and incorrectly diagnosed her with a stroke.

She alleges she has lost the chance of successful treatment of the brain cancer due to its progression.

The plaintiffs hold St. Louis University and SLH Vista Inc., doing business as St. Louis University Hospital, responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to perform proper diagnostic testing and failed to diagnose her condition.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants of more than $25,000, punitive damages, with interest, costs and all other relief that are just under the circumstances. They are represented by John G. Simon, Kevin M. Carnie Jr. and Patrick R. McPhail of The Simon Law Firm PC in St. Louis.
