Woman alleged to have disobeyed red light in Newstead Avenue crash

Car accident 04

ST. LOUIS – An Illinois woman is alleged to have been using a cellphone when she disobeyed a red light at a St. Louis intersection and caused an auto accident.

Barry Martin filed a complaint on May 29 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Shagina Porter alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 23, 2016, he suffered injuries to his head, neck, back, shoulders, arms and legs when his vehicle was struck by defendant's vehicle near the intersection of Newstead Avenue and Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis. The suit states the defendant violated a red traffic signal.

The plaintiff holds Porter responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently operated her vehicle at an excessive speed and while using her cellular telephone and failed to yield to the right of way.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in a fair and reasonable amount of more than $25,000, plus costs and all other relief that is proper and just. He is represented by Stephen R. Slough of The Law Office of Steve Slough in St. Louis.
