ST. LOUIS – An Illinois woman alleges she was injured during a surgery at a St. Louis health care facility.

Olivia Reed and Johnnie B. Reed filed a complaint on June 25 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against St. Louis University and Phillippe Mercier MD alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Jan. 15, 2016, Olivia Reed underwent minimally invasive back surgery performed by the defendants. She alleges she sustained injury to her ureter during the surgery.

The plaintiffs hold St. Louis University and Mercier responsible because the defendants failed to identify, isolate and preserve the integrity of the left ureter and failed to ascertain it had been injured.

The plaintiffs seek judgment against each defendant in an amount of more than $25,000, plus costs of court. They are represented by Colleen C. Jones of Cook, Bartholomew, Shevlin & Cook LLP in Belleville.
