ST. LOUIS – A man alleges exposure to lead-based paint at a rental property in St. Louis during his childhood has caused him injury.

Otis L. Woodard filed a complaint on June 29 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Lonnie L. Spight and Marva J. Spight alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff and his mother lived at a rental property in St. Louis owned by the defendants from 1995 to 1998 when he was a child. He alleges the city of St. Louis Health Department identified areas of lead-based paint in the property during an inspection.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants allowed the lead-based paint to flake and chip, causing him injury.

The plaintiff holds Lonnie L. Spight and Marva J. Spight responsible because the defendants allegedly violated property maintenance codes and failed to promptly abate the lead hazard after notice.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in his favor in an amount of more than $25,000, with interest, costs and all other relief that are appropriate. He is represented by Patrick R. Dowd, Eric D. Holland and R. Seth Crompton of Holland Law Firm in St. Louis and Alan J. Mensh of Ashcraft & Gerel LLP in Baltimore, Maryland.
