ST. LOUIS – A former patient alleges the negligence of a St. Louis University physician caused him to develop sepsis and need further medical treatment.

Robert Oldham filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Dr. Charles Andrus and St. Louis University alleging medical malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 20, 2016, he underwent a laparoscopic chlolecystectomy performed by defendant Andrus. The suit states Andrus used a clip on the stump of a cystic duct, which came loose and caused bile to drain into his abdominal cavity. He alleges this led to further medical treatment and infections.

The plaintiff holds Andrus and St. Louis University responsible because the Andrus allegedly negligently attempted to seal the stump of the cystic duct with only one clip and delayed surgical repair, causing sepsis and septic shock.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $50,000, plus costs. He is represented by Eugene H. Fahrenkrog Jr. of Eugene H. Fahrenkrog Jr. PC in Clayton.
