THOMPSON COBURN LLP: Helen B. Kim, Brandi Burke receive ABA presidential appointments

Thompson Coburn LLP issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.

Thompson Coburn partners Helen B. Kim and Brandi Burke have received presidential appointments to two high-profile ABA entities. Their positions were made effective at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago, which concluded August 7, 2018.

Helen is the new chair of the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession (CREDP), whose mission is to “be a catalyst promoting diversity and inclusion within the legal profession and the ABA by facilitating the entry, participation and retention of diverse lawyers.” Helen has previously served as vice chair, commissioner and special advisor to CREDP, where she worked on the Commission’s Minority Counsel Program, its Spirit of Excellence luncheon and the development of an ABA national diversity conference featuring programs focused on diversity and inclusion.

As a litigator in Thompson Coburn’s Los Angeles office, Helen represents public and private companies, their directors, officers and principal shareholders before the courts and in arbitration proceedings. She is the vice co-chair of Thompson Coburn's Business Litigation group.

Helen is a past co-chair of the ABA’s Securities Litigation Committee and a past president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles.

Brandi has been appointed as a member of the ABA’s Standing Committee on Professionalism, which is charged to "encourage, recommend and provide assistance to ABA entities in the development and coordination of professionalism initiatives.” The committee also assists state and local bar associations, the judiciary, law schools, and the legal community in their efforts to improve lawyer professionalism and educates members of the public about professionalism.

Brandi is a St. Louis-based litigator who defends corporate clients in class action and complex commercial litigation matters. She has successfully defended clients in state and federal courts in matters ranging from consumer fraud, securities, data breach and tax class action litigation to complex commercial contract disputes, business tort claims and shareholder and fiduciary litigation.

Brandi is an active member of the ABA’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section and a board member of the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers.
