ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis woman alleges she was injured in a fall from a stretcher because emergency personnel failed to adequately secure the wheels of the stretcher.

Emelia Richars filed a complaint on Aug. 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against the city of St. Louis and John Doe alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 27, 2017, she contacted defendants for emergency medical and ambulance services because she exhibited stroke-like symptoms. She alleges as personnel began to transfer her onto a stretcher, they failed to lock the wheels and it shifted, causing her to fall from the stretcher.

The plaintiff holds the city of St. Louis and John Doe responsible because the defendants failed to act with the highest degree of care and failed to safely and properly transport her.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $25,000, with interest, costs and all other relief that is just and proper. She is represented by Patrick R. Dowd, Eric D. Holland and R. Seth Crompton of Holland Law Firm in St. Louis.
