Woman alleges heart damage after surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital

ST. LOUIS – A patient alleges she was left with damage to her heart because of a surgical error.

Donna Priester and Robert Priester filed a complaint on Aug. 1 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that on Aug. 2, 2016, Donna Priester was operated on by agents of the defendants for a repair of aorta to right atrial fistula. 

As a result defendants' alleged negligence in stitching the electrical pathway closed, after the surgery she was left with 100 percent total V heart blockade and underwent a second surgery to install a dual-chamber MRI conditional pacemaker and a third surgery to remove the improperly placed surgical sternal wiring. 

The plaintiffs hold Barnes-Jewish Hospital, The Washington University, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly breached the applicable standard of medical care.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $25,000, plus costs and all other relief that is necessary and appropriate. They are represented by Bill T. Walker of Law Offices of Bill T. Walker in Granite City, Illinois and James E. Parrot of Law Office of James E. Parrot in St. Louis.
