ST. LOUIS – A former administrator for a medical facility alleges he was terminated because of his age and disability.

John J. Gloss filed a complaint on Aug. 28 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Shriners Hospitals for Children alleging that the former employer violated the Missouri Human Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff was employed by the defendant as administrator for Shriners Hospital in St. Louis. The suit states in November 2016, the plaintiff was diagnosed with pre-pancreatic cancer and took three months of Family and Medical Leave Act leave beginning in May 2017 for surgery and recovery. The suit states he was terminated in January at the age of 67. The plaintiff alleges he was replaced by someone younger.

The plaintiff holds Shriners Hospitals for Children responsible because the defendant allegedly discriminated and retaliated against him because of his disability, age and because he refused to retire.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, and costs, reinstatement or front pay and all other relief that are just and proper. He is represented by D. Eric Sowers, Ferne P. Wolf and others of Sowers & Wolf LLC in St. Louis.
