Polsinelli issued the following announcement on Sept. 20.
Polsinelli’s Intellectual Property client Scott Carver, president and chief executive officer of FirstSpear, has been named the 2018 Inventor of the Year in the Established Companies category by the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL).
Carver and co-inventors, Mike Cole and Trevor Buerck, worked closely with Steve Matthews of Matthews Edwards LLC to complete the patent applications and associated filings for the honored inventions: FirstSpear’s 6/12 Modular Platform Technology and Tubes Rapid Release Technology. Carver and FirstSpear are working with Polsinelli’s national Intellectual Property practice to license and enforce those patents.
“As a business partner, our team works side-by-side with clients, from idea to production, facilitating their success and safeguarding their intellectual property rights,” said Keith Grady, vice chair of Polsinelli’s Intellectual Property and Technology Litigation practice, who practices out of the firm’s St. Louis office. “Polsinelli is thrilled to congratulate Scott and everyone at FirstSpear on this tremendous honor.”
Launched in 2011 by a team of industry professionals and former U.S. servicemen, FirstSpear is focused on the rapid design, development and delivery of personal protective equipment and enhanced-load-carriage solutions for warfighters and professional users.
Carver is scheduled to receive the Inventor of the Year award during an Oct. 11 ceremony at the Innovation Conference Center at T-REX in downtown St. Louis. The evening will begin with a panel discussion about recent developments in patent law and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Polsinelli Senior Partner Q. Todd Dickinson will participate as a panelist. Dickinson formerly served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
