ST. LOUIS – A former employee of a cheese producer alleges he lost his job as a production supervisor because of his disability.

Michael Schneider filed a complaint on Oct. 7 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Swiss-American Inc. alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff began his employment with the defendant in August 2016 as a production supervisor. He alleges he submitted a complaint to human resources regarding "cruel jokes and unfounded allegations pertaining" to his performance because of problems with his hip and knee.

The suit states in July 2017, he had hip revision surgery and was off work until October. The suit states he was terminated Oct. 30, 2017, after he returned to work.

The plaintiff holds Swiss-American Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly subjected him to adverse employment action because of his disability.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant for damages of more than $25,000, plus costs, attorney's fees and all other relief that is proper and just. He is represented by Douglas Ponder and Jaclyn M. Zimmermann of Ponder Zimmermann LLC in St. Louis.
