ST. LOUIS — A passenger is suing the National Railroad Passenger Corp., doing business as Amtrak, citing alleged negligence.

Carolyn Smith filed a complaint on Oct. 12, in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court, against the defendants alleging that they failed to properly maintain the steps from ice build-up.

The plaintiff alleges that on March 3, 2015, she was "rushed" from the Amtrak train and slipped and fell on  ice-covered steps.

She allegedly suffered serious and painful injuries and mental anguish. She incurred medical expenses and loss of ability to enjoy life.

The plaintiff holds National Railroad Passenger Corp., doing business as Amtrak, responsible because the defendants allegedly negligently ordered the passengers to rush off the train when they allegedly knew of the danger posed by the iced-covered steps and failed to provide adequate warning.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant for more than $75,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Ryan M. Furniss and Joshua G. Miller of The Furniss Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
