Driver seeks more than $25,000 from Republic Services over I-64 collision

ST. LOUIS – A motorist alleges a driver for a waste disposal company drove while distracted before rear-ending his vehicle on Interstate 64.

Joseph Lance Leykam filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against CWI of Missouri Inc., doing business as Republic Services, and Gary Jasinski alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Sept. 8, 2016, he was stopped for traffic in his vehicle on I-64 near Hampton Avenue when was struck from the rear by the Republic Services' truck, which was driven by Jasinski. He alleges he suffered serious injuries to his neck, back and knees as a result of the accident.

The plaintiff holds CWI of Missouri Inc. and Jasinski responsible because defendant Jasinski followed his vehicle more closely than reasonable, failed to keep proper a lookout and negligently drove his vehicle while distracted.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount of more than $25,000, costs, interest and all other relief that is proper and just. He is represented by Shaun M. Falvey and Amanda N. Murphy of Goldblatt + Singer in Clayton.
