ST. LOUIS – A public safety officer is seeking more than $25,000 from a driver who allegedly struck him while operating his vehicle in reverse.

Matthew C. Brown filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against Rondell Billups alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 3, 2013, he was performing his duties as a public safety officer near the intersection of Spring and Laclede avenues in St. Louis when he was hit by defendant's vehicle. He alleges he was seriously injured in the bones, muscles, nerves and tissues of his right hand, foot, spine, shoulder and back and has incurred medical expenses of more than $10,000 and lost wages as a result.

The plaintiff holds Billups responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to yield to a pedestrian/public safety officer and failed to keep a proper lookout, and drove in reverse too fast for the conditions.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in an amount of more than $25,000 and all other relief deemed proper. He is represented by Christopher A. Wagner and Michael A. Chehval of Gabriel, McCartney & Wagner PC in St. Louis.
