ST. LOUIS — A personal care coordinator is suing Deer Valley Home Health Services LLC, et al, employers, citing alleged interference with the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Genelda Cockrell filed a complaint on Oct. 31, in the St. Louis Circuit Court, alleging the agency violated the Missouri Human Rights Act.

The plaintiff, who has a disability due to a medical condition, was terminated from her employment on Dec. 20, 2016.

She has been damaged in the form of lost wages and employment benefits, emotional distress, humiliation and diminished employment status, according to the lawsuit.

The plaintiff holds Deer Valley Home Health Services, et al, responsible because the defendants allegedly discriminated against her by denying her rights to take time off under the Family and Medical Leave Act, and allegedly terminating because of her disability.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks reinstatement to an appropriate position and award for compensatory and punitive damages, costs and expenses, interest and all other relief that is proper and just.

She is represented by Sarah Swatosh of The Law Office of Sarah N. Swatosh LLC in St. Louis.
