Polsinelli Shareholders Korb Maxwell and Nancy Hawes have been selected by Missouri Lawyers Media as 2018 Top Legal Innovation Award winners. The duo will be recognized today by Missouri Lawyers Media among 16 honorees statewide at the inaugural recognition ceremony.
For the first time, Missouri Lawyers Media is celebrating attorneys and businesses from around the state with its Top Legal Innovation Awards for their work to drive new practice areas, services and business strategies.

Hawes, a corporate and transactional attorney, and Maxwell, a real estate attorney, as a duo represent one of four recipients in the Emerging Practice Areas category of the award, which honors firms or attorneys who identify and support a practice area in an emerging legal field and are among the first to develop expertise.
Both attorneys were instrumental in launching Polsinelli’s newest practice in October, the Opportunity Zones Practice Group, in response to a sweeping program created by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The group works with clients to structure investments compliant with the law in Opportunity Zones across the country.
Maxwell, who leads the Opportunity Zones Practice Group, has a practice with robust economic development projects throughout his 15-year legal career, and is spearheading Polsinelli’s efforts to establish opportunity funds, direct investments in opportunity zones and lead clients to qualify for the valuable tax benefits. Hawes focuses her practice in the area of corporate law and provides strategies for growth, succession, operation, compliance, structure and best practices. Maxwell, Hawes and other members of the Opportunity Zones Practice who focus on economic development initiatives have studied the Opportunity Zones program since days within enactment.
Missouri Lawyers Media will present the awards today at The Gallery event space and The Kill Devil Club in Kansas City, Mo.
