ST. LOUIS – The mother of a man involved in a high speed chase is seeking damages from the St. Louis Police Department and others.

Elon Miles, as surviving mother of Christopher O. Miles, deceased, filed a complaint on Dec. 11 in the St. Louis Circuit Court against St. Louis County Police Department, et al. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 21, 2016, the defendants began a high-speed pursuit of a Chevrolet Impala of which Christopher O. Miles was a passenger. The suit states the driver of the Impala crashed into another vehicle and into a parked, unoccupied vehicle and all three vehicles "spontaneously combusted upon impact."

The plaintiff holds St. Louis County Police Department, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly drove an excessive rate of speed and failed to operate their vehicles in a careful and prudent manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against all defendants, jointly and severally, and for punitive damages, plus costs, and all other relief that is proper and just. She is represented by James R. Cantalin and Andrea A. Stanley of Brown & Croupen PC in St. Louis.
