ST. LOUIS – A St. Louis widow alleges her insurer refused to pay her claim for life insurance benefits without reasonable cause.
Ramona Hill filed a complaint on Dec. 18 in the St. Louis 22nd Judicial Circuit Court against Standard Insurance Co. alleging vexatious refusal to pay.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Oct. 10, 2017, she signed up for insurance through defendant's agent, adding her husband to the policy in October 2017 with an effective date of Jan. 1. The suit states her husband was diagnosed with cancer in January and died on Aug. 10.
Soon after, the plaintiff alleges she made a request to defendant for the payment of the insurance proceeds of her husband's life insurance and the defendant denied her claim.
The plaintiff holds Standard Insurance Co. responsible because the defendant allegedly refused to pay the policy without reasonable cause or excuse.
The plaintiff seeks damages in a fair and reasonable amount of more than $25,000, attorney's fees, costs and all other relief that is just and proper. She is represented by James P. Krupp of Krupp Law Firm LLC in St. Louis.
