Thompson Coburn LLP issued the following announcement on April 23.

Thompson Coburn partner Brandi Burke has been named a Women’s Justice Award winner by Missouri Lawyers Media. Brandi, who will be honored in the Litigation category, will be recognized for her achievements along with the other WJA nominees at an April 25 event in St. Louis and will be profiled in a special section of Missouri Lawyers Weekly.

In addition to being a part of other litigation victories over her career, Brandi played a key role in two reported opinions in the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for Scottrade, Inc., including as one of the architects of a litigation strategy that resulted in the first federal appellate opinion to squarely address the merits of a data breach class action. That opinion ultimately resulted in the dismissal with prejudice of four class actions stemming from the data breach at issue.

Active in the national ABA and state and local bar associations from her first year of practice, in 2018 Brandi received an ABA presidential appointment to a three-year term on the ABA’s Standing Committee on Professionalism. In that role, Brandi assists ABA entities, state and local bar associations, the judiciary, law schools, and the legal community at large with the development of professionalism initiatives. Brandi is also chair-elect of the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee of the ABA’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, a member of the Board of Directors of the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, and serves on BAMSL’s membership committee.

At Thompson Coburn, Brandi is a member of the Firm’s Employment Committee, where she assists with the recruitment and retention of new attorneys, serves as a mentor to young associates through the Firm’s Total Commitment Women’s Initiative mentoring program, and assists with administration of the firm’s pro bono efforts for Legal Services of Eastern Missouri.

A native of Indiana and a graduate of Purdue University, Brandi serves on the Advisory Board for Kappa Alpha Theta, a women’s fraternity at Purdue, and in 2017 was named the Outstanding Advisor of the Year by the Purdue Panhellenic Association. Locally, Brandi has volunteered with the Muny as a member of Muny Young Friends.
