Thompson & Coburn issued the following announcement on July 12.

Thompson Coburn LLP announced that its Chair Tom Minogue plans to step down in July 2020. He will be succeeded by Roman Wuller, who leads the Firm’s 190-attorney litigation department. Tom will continue as a partner in the Firm.

During Tom’s 20-year tenure as Chair, Thompson Coburn has become the largest law firm in the St. Louis metropolitan area, expanded its presence in Washington DC, successfully entered the Chicago and Los Angeles markets via merger and added new areas of expertise, such as intellectual property, tax credits, cybersecurity and public/private partnerships.

In addition to overseeing the Firm’s growth, Tom led it through periods of significant positive change. Under his leadership the Firm launched its Diversity Initiative, including funding the Eagleton Scholarship for law students from under-represented communities. And, Thompson Coburn developed its successful Women’s Initiative, becoming one of only 45 law firms to achieve a 2019 “Gold Standard Certification” from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum.

Tom also has earned broad ranging respect in the community for his leadership roles at important civic and charitable institutions, including as chair of the St. Louis Regional Chamber, and for his service as a legal advisor to some of the nation’s largest companies. He has been the general counsel for the United Way of Greater St. Louis for 25 years and is a past chair of the Chancellor’s Council of the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the Boards of Directors of the Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital and the American Heart Association, St. Louis Chapter.

“Roman is a dedicated leader, an exceptional attorney and a valued colleague,” said Tom. “This role is a natural extension of Roman’s career-long service to Thompson Coburn and our vision for the future of our Firm. As a person who listens and takes action, Roman is uniquely qualified to guide our extraordinary team at Thompson Coburn to even greater heights. We all are excited to see Roman take on this new role, and I am looking forward to working with him over the next year to ensure a smooth transition."

Roman has represented major corporations as a trial attorney in high-stakes litigation across the country for more than three decades. He has defended more than 300 class actions in over 30 states and coordinated complex multi-district litigation, particularly for companies in the telecommunications and energy sectors. He also has deep experience counseling clients through the litigation management process and alternative dispute resolution strategies.

“I’m honored to serve as the next chair of Thompson Coburn, where I have spent my entire career and where we have built a team of talented attorneys and professional staff who are singularly dedicated to providing exceptional legal services to clients across the country,” said Roman. “Along with the rest of our leadership group, I look forward to continuing our commitment to maintaining a strong, growth-oriented, financially-sound practice, providing professional opportunities for our people, and staying deeply connected to civic and charitable organizations in all of our communities.”
