Missouri Attorney General issued the following announcement on July 9.
Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt announced that his office has secured an additional three federal indictments in St. Louis through the Safer Streets Initiative. All three indictments, which were recently unsealed, were obtained by Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys (SAUSAs) deputized by the U.S. Attorney’s Office as part of the Safer Streets Initiative. Schmitt announced the first federal indictment obtained by a SAUSA on June 27th.
On June 19, 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Daquan Marshall with one count of interfering with commerce by robbery, one count of possessing and discharging a firearm in connection with such robbery, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. The indictment alleges that on December 21, 2018, Daquan Marshall robbed a Church’s Chicken and brandished a firearm at the restaurant’s employees. Marshall had previously been convicted of one or more crimes punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year. Jennifer Szczucinski is the SAUSA handling this case.
On July 3, 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Willie Trotter-El with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon. The indictment alleges that on May 13, 2019, St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers located a firearm in Trotter-El’s possession. Trotter-El had previously been convicted of one or more crimes punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year. Katharine Dolin is the SAUSA handling this case.
On July 3, 2019, a federal grand jury indicted Patrick Laventure with one count of possessing with the intent to distribute at least fifty grams of a mixture or substance containing a schedule II drug, to wit: methamphetamine and one count of possessing a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime. The indictment alleges that, on May 13, 2019, St. Louis Metro Police Department officers located a pistol and at least fifty grams of a substance or mixture containing methamphetamine in Laventure’s possession. Gregory Goodwin is the SAUSA handling this case.
“Because of the dedication of our talented Special Assistant U.S. Attorneys, the Attorney General’s Office is making tangible progress in implementing the Safer Streets Initiative. I look forward to continuing to work with our federal partners to combat violent crime in St. Louis and across the state,” said Attorney General Schmitt.
Attorney General Schmitt, along with U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri Jeff Jensen, launched the Safer Streets Initiative in St. Louis. The Safer Streets Initiative was then expanded to Kansas City and Springfield in cooperation with U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Tim Garrison.
Schmitt also joined U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District Jeff Jensen, law enforcement officials, elected officials, and community leadersfor the St. Louis Regional Crime Commission’s announcement of their donation of $200,000 to Better Family life for crime prevention and deterrence efforts.
