Polsinelli PAC issued the following announcement on Aug. 16.
Throughout her life, whether working on behalf of a client or leading a nonprofit organization as a volunteer, Polsinelli Shareholder Nancy Millsap Hawes approaches every challenge with an unwavering spirit of collaboration, determination, leadership and vitality. Her work, both professionally and as a volunteer, has helped to shape the future of the St. Louis region for years to come. In honor of these achievements, Hawes was recently named as one of the “Most Influential Business Women” by the St. Louis Business Journal.
Hawe’s career path is anything but traditional. To pursue greater professional opportunities, she returned to law school while raising three young children. She graduated from law school 19 years after earning her baccalaureate degree, receiving both scholarship and leadership awards along the way. Today, as a shareholder at national law firm Polsinelli, she has earned a reputation for her sincere and passionate representation of her clients. She concentrates her practice on corporate and transactional law, specifically in the areas of real estate, finance and tax-exempt organizations.
“Polsinelli is proud to support its women attorneys and is committed to helping women become leaders within the legal industry and within their communities,” Jane Arnold, managing partner of the St. Louis office said. “The high level of success and respect Nancy has achieved throughout her career is remarkable.”
The honor is the most recent in the long list of accolades Hawes has received. Missouri Lawyers Media honored her as one of its “2018 Top Legal Innovation Award” winners. In 2017, Hawes was honored as one of the 2017 Women of Distinction by the Missouri Athletic Club. The program recognizes those who enrich the community and contribute to the advancement of women through leadership, character and professional achievements. In 2011, she was recognized by the St. Louis Small Business Monthly as a “Top Small Business Lawyer.” Hawes is also listed in the real estate and corporate law sections of The Best Lawyers in America.
In addition to her professional achievements, Hawes has been dedicated to improving the St. Louis community through volunteer service for more than 25 years. From 2013 to 2016, she served as chairman of the board of directors of the Incarnate Word Foundation (IWF). Under her leadership, IWF developed two tremendously impactful programs, STL Youth Jobs and the Marketplace of Ideas. Both initiatives aimed to foster community-wide partnerships to end cycles of poverty and injustice.
In 2019, Nancy was named to the Board of Directors of The Muny, the largest outdoor venue for musical theater in the U.S. Since 2015, Nancy has been a board member of the Friends of St. Louis Public Radio, currently serving as vice president. In addition, she has served as an Executive Committee member of The Women's Society of Washington University (WSWU) since 2011.
Hawes previously served as a member of the board of directors of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis from 1997 until 2013, and member of that board’s executive committee from 2008 until 2009. She was also the founder of the Arts & Education Council’s development board, and served as the board’s first president. She is a former member of the board of directors of Marian Middle School, as well as its development committee.
