Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. issued the following announcement on Sept. 17.
The Guadalupe Centers, Inc. (GCI) will recognize Shook Pro Bono Director Jolie Justus for her strategic guidance contributing to the growth and development of one of the nation’s first Latino social service agencies.
Justus will earn the “I Pat Rios” award for her outstanding contributions to GCI and the Latino community of greater Kansas City. In addition to providing pro bono legal services, Justus advocated tirelessly on behalf of GCI and the Latino community during her time as a state senator and Kansas City councilperson.
“It’s an honor to help the Guadalupe Center reach its full potential serving the Latino community,” stated Justus. “For nearly 20 years, we’ve been involved with GCI, their clients, schools and staff. Together, we are making a difference.”
Justus leads Shook’s pro bono team. The law firm contributes more than 25,000 hours of pro bono services each year to various causes, including working relationships with social service agencies like GCI.
The Guadalupe Centers will host its annual Blanco y Negro Gala marking its 100th anniversary, September 21, 2019, at the Kansas City Convention Center. GCI will recognize Justus at the gala as part of Hispanic Heritage Month festivities.
