Thompson Coburn LLP issued the following announcement on Dec. 13.
Thompson Coburn has been recognized by Missouri Lawyers Media with multiple commendations in the 2019 Legal Innovation Awards. The Legal Innovation Awards recognize attorneys, firms and businesses from around the state for their progressive work to drive new practice areas, services and business strategies in three categories: Emerging Practice Areas, Law Firm Business Changes and New Services or Products.
This year, Thompson Coburn was recognized in all three categories for the following:
Emerging Practice Area – Cannabis Practice group
Our Cannabis Practice group is grown tremendously in the past year, spanning all four of our largest markets (Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C.) and incorporating several practice areas, including real estate, corporate structuring, lobbying and policy and intellectual property. We not only represent marijuana producers, sellers and investors on their formation and operation, but also provide cannabis law guidance to property owners, equipment providers, insurers, software companies and consulting firms.
Law Firm Business Changes – ProjectCRAFT™
ProjectCRAFT™ is a collaborative web platform that allows companies to easily handle responses to legal citations and garnishments through a dedicated team of outside counsel while predictably managing their resources. We developed ProjectCRAFT™ after listening to clients who were frustrated with the time and expense involved in processing citations, garnishments, subpoenas and third-party pleadings.
New Services or Products – B-CEEN Project
Formed in conjunction with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, B-CEEN (short for Birth Certificate Education and Navigation) seeks to address the issue of same-sex couples signing their child’s birth certificate. Most state laws only allow a child’s biological parents to sign their birth certificate, presenting unique and frustrating experiences for same-sex couples having children. Developed as part of the 2019 Global Legal Hackathon, the B-CEEN online platform would provide same-sex parent and health care providers with information on the legal issues affecting their rights as parents, including state laws and regulations regarding birth certificates, steps for expectant parents can take and the process for amended existing birth certificates.
The 25 honorees for 2019 were recognized on December 12 at a reception dinner in St. Louis.
