Thompson Coburn LLP issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.

It with sadness that Thompson Coburn recognizes the passing of our former managing partner Stan Walch, who died December 3 at age 85.

Stan served as an attorney with Thompson Coburn for 60 years. He joined the former Thompson & Mitchell firm in 1959 after graduating from the University of Michigan Law School, where he finished first in his class. As a partner, he focused his practice on mergers and acquisitions, and left the firm in 1969 to become general counsel of Chromalloy American Corporation. Stan led Chromalloy through 75 acquisitions before returning to the Firm in 1976. He shifted his practice to litigation and became one of the most prominent trial attorneys in our Firm, representing clients like Peabody Energy and Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative. Clients were drawn to Stan’s impressive combination of business acumen and advocacy skills. Along the way he served in Firm management from the late 1970s through the late 1990s, including two years as managing partner from 1988 until 1990. He returned to the full-time practice of law in 1990, and continued to actively practice until just a few years ago.

Stan was deeply devoted to the St. Louis community, and spent many years as a trustee of the Jordan Foundation, which donated tens of millions of dollars to worthy charities during his tenure. He and his wife Valerie were regular and welcome figures at a broad array of civic and charitable events and causes.
