HeplerBroom issued the following announcement on Jan. 30.
Sometimes veterans lose out on healthcare benefits because they don’t have the right military and medical records. An upcoming free legal clinic, sponsored by Legal Help Within Reach, is being held to help them obtain those records. [Legal Help Within Reach is part of the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI).]
HeplerBroom attorneys have volunteered to staff the clinic, which is being held at the Madison County Courthouse from 1 to 4 p.m. on February 12. To obtain an appointment and determine eligibility requirements, veterans may call Shelby Smith at 833-275-7454, extension 5.
Legal Help Within Reach brings life-changing legal help to those in need by transforming the legal aid system. Through Legal Help Within Reach, PILI recruits attorneys and law student volunteers from urban areas to volunteer at free legal clinics for low-income Illinoisans living in rural and underserved communities. PILI believes that equal access to justice is a fundamental right. It works with lawyers, law students, and legal professionals across Illinois to provide in-person and virtual pro bono legal aid services and education for thousands of Illinois residents who struggle to navigate the legal system due to a lack of financial resources. Support for these activities comes from law firms, corporations, foundations, and universities, as well as individual donors.
