Walgreens in civil battle with woman who says store is responsible for her tripping on mat

Federal Court

ST. LOUIS - Walgreens is facing civil charges from a woman who says she was injured after tripping on the entrance mat at the store on Telegraph Road in St. Louis.

Plaintiff Alice M. Kopp filed her lawsuit in November in St. Louis County Circuit Court after she visited a Walgreens in September. Kopp allegedly tripped on the mat at the entrance to the store due to it being loose and its metal stripping being raised and exposed.

Kopp says she sustained injuries including a left arm fracture and knee injuries.

In the response to Kopp's petition, Walgreens denied the negligence allegations, stating that the plaintiff entered the store understanding the reasonable risk of doing so. It then removed the case to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in February.

The plaintiff is seeking judgement against Walgreens in excess of $25,000.

Kopp is represented by Horas, Radice and Associates, LLC, of St. Louis. Walgreens is represented by Brown and James, PC, of St. Louis.
