ST. LOUIS - A Missouri military veteran sued the United States in St. Louis federal court after a procedure at the St. Louis Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) left him partially blind, according to documents filed Feb. 24.

Plaintiff Marshall Hunter visited the VAMC in May 2018 for ongoing treatment of his eyesight and glaucoma. On May 16, VAMC physician Dr. Jesse Himebaugh told the plaintiff that he would need a YAG laser procedure for treatment of his right eye.

The plaintiff says the medical center did not provide any further information about what the procedure is, what its risks are and why he needed it.

Hunter underwent the YAG laser procedure in June; as soon as the laser flashed, Hunter experienced severe pain in is right eye, he says. Through the improperly executed and medically unnecessary procedure, Hunter lost sight in his right eye, affecting his capability to drive, function at night or engage in other hobbies and activities, the suit says.

Hunter is represented by the Law Offices of David N. Damick.
